This might be a dumb question but when the Bandcamp gets taken down, will that remove all the Longform Editions tracks in our libraries? Basically, do I need to start downloading everything that I haven't already downloaded?

I can answer this from experience - no, it won't! The nice thing about Bandcamp is that once you buy something, you actually own it forever (or as long as Bandcamp exists, at least).

Thanks Sean - all pieces are eventually handed over in full to the artists, so there is no issue with retaining your purchases. Thank you for your support!

I think I might further expand on Devin's question as I don't think the responses fully answer it.

Yes, once you buy something on BC you own the file as long as BC is up. But files are linked to a specific label or artist page. Sometimes you'll notice an album/file/release exists separately on both.

So, since we may have bought a release from LE, if LE is taken down, the link to access that release may (or may not: this is the question) disappear and no longer play or be accessed even though the song/file/rights revert back to the artist (who may then, or may already have upload(ed) it on their page) but since the user didn't purchase it initially from the artist, the system may not recognize we have purchased that release (once, in this case, LE closes its page). We own the purchase but as Devin asks, we may have to download it because the page we purchased it from will no longer be seen by the system. And even though the release is reverted back to the artist, doesn't the artist have to upload that release thereby creating a new site/link for that release? A group I follow Thet Liturgiske Owandset has many releases represented by labels and after a period were able to upload those releases to their own site. I purchased them via the labels, which do still exist and still harbor those releases even though they also now exist on Thet's page. The system shows I own the release if I access it through the label. If I access the album through Thet's page, the system does not recognize I've purchased the release.

This came up as a question when Cached Media decided to close their Bandcamp page. They recommended purchasers download the files, but a user spoke up and mentioned there is a method by which if a page is closed, the owner of the page can still leave the files on the system so that those who purchased them can still stream/download even though the label page no longer exists (streaming statistics are no longer charted I'm guessing, but it means we don't have to buy the release twice in order to have access to it).

I do apologize if this is adding to the confusion, but I think it's worth the effort. I subscribed to LE for a couple years so I have about 75% of the releases on the label (I HAVE downloaded them, but BC is the only site I use to stream) so when the page closes, it's a question if what I purchased from you will still be streamable as I'm highly unlikely to re-purchase them separately on the artists' pages).

Thanks mate. So: We were informed by Bandcamp that we actually could not remove the LE Bandcamp page altogether, I am unsure how Cached Media did this, however ours remains blank (with some information) and we have no plans to remove it. Also, our policy was to hand pieces over to artists' pages after a period, where there is no connection to the LE Bandcamp page. This is not a new upload - the work LE released is simply transferred over to the artist page and their attached payment set-up. This is the work you purchased, not a new iteration. The artists have sole administration of their works from that point. You would directly deal with the artist on any concerns now as opposed to LE. But yes, downloading your purchases is always the failsafe option outside of the Bandcamp system. Best, Andrew
