Even better is that you took time to read both, which I'm really grateful for, as well as the fact you brought these two to my ears, along with so much other great music. Thank you, Philip!
By the way, if folks miss out on Docplay, the Martin Phillipps doco is also available on Kanopy, which is freely accessible via membership of a lot of public libraries… https://www.kanopy.com/video/6683786
I've just received your newsletter and pawing through it quickly (it's late at night her) I saw the first thing that stood out. Raphael Rogiński is a revalation.
I'll go through the rest shortly but wanted to than you for presenting his music.
Great to know it's had a similar effect on you as it has on me. I will look forward to discovering more of Raphael's music. As mentioned, we can both thank, the Futurism Restated and Zen Sounds newsletters for their earlier praise!
Nice to see some love get thrown Martin's way. There are few bands that I manage to zealously follow from start to finish, and The Chills were one of 'em. And yes, that second phase was an unexpected gift, including the couple of shows I had the chance to see stateside. Joyous. Still need to see that doc, tho!
It's great you got to see The Chills. I saw them a few times as well - the last time was at the Sydney Festival in 2016. The band were playing in the Spiegeltent in Hyde Park, where I just happened to be DJing a hastily-organised David Bowie tribue to thousands of people the festival organisers did not expect to show. I ran over to see The Chills in the break between sets and it was wonderful. A day later I got a message via Facebook from The Chills Facebook page, saying how much they enjoyed the Bowie sets (and my Ziggy wig). I like to think it was Martin who wrote. All the best to you!
Love how you write about Total Blue! Beautifully put. And the Chris Abrahams comparison with Rogiński is spot on.

Had you, Philip, not written about Talàn last year, I'd probably never discovered Rogiński's music either! Big thanks.

Thank you, Alby :)

Thanks for reading and great to hear from you, JOD!
I'm very good, thanks, and hope you are too.
